You really don't see the problem, lou? Why should someone's labor be taxed? And why should someone's labor be taxed more than others just because they make more? Consumption-based taxes are the only ones that truly make sense, but a flat tax is probably the best we can get in this country (because of the Democrats.)

the only thing wrong with the current system is republican/conservative recalcitrance. countries with better regulation had business and banks have done better than ours, canada and brazil being 2.

where do you get the idea that "keeping all you earn " is a basic tenit of liberty? the founding fathers put the right of taxation in the early articles of the constityution, not in the amendments like the right to gun ownership. during the revolution real patriots left their blood in the snow of valley forge not b/c they didn't like shoes but b/c there was no statutory means of taxation to provide them. is that what you want to see, that those who actually believe in this country more than they do in amassing personal wealth have to bleed for that belief b/c conservatives DON"T CARE?

Yes, but stop dodging the question: what should replace it? You're showing a problem without suggesting an alternative. This is what Obama has been saying about us since he came into office.

GIVE ME AN ALTERNATIVE. What is a better choice than a progressive federal income tax?

I never understood why the tax rate is incrementally progressive. Why isn't it just r=j*e^(k*x), where r is the rate, x is income and j and k are voted on. How much more money do we need to put into education before this happens?

Firstly, I make no such insinuations in my writing; I simply say that the current tax system is not ideal.

The Libertarians in question think that although government needs money to operate, the Federal Income Tax is not Constitutionally legal and should be removed. Some advocate for no replacement, a fair/flat tax, etc.

I will not make statements on better systems of taxation, as I have not examined the situation thoroughly enough to be able to decide which systems are best.
