Anticipating an Obamanation
A colleague of mine wrote last month about why he, as a Christian, feels obligated to vote for Barack Obama. To me, this notion is not only delusional but downright scary. I feel that I need to respond to this notion as well as list the almost countless other reasons Barack Obama would do great damage to this country. He is not even qualified to be President of this great nation.
Contrary to popular belief, Conservatives and Republicans do not ignore the plight of the poor. They do not horde their money while people all around the world struggle to survive. Rather, conservatives hold the view that this is not the government’s problem to solve, and don’t like having their possessions forcibly taken. Since we like quoting the Bible, Proverbs 14:23 says, “All hard work brings profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.” Conservative Christians believe that people earn what they work for, and reap the benefits of their labor. However, they believe that it is the job of the church and other charities – not the government – to help the poor. This can be evidenced by looking at the candidates’ records on charitable giving. Senator McCain has given 23.1% of his income to charity and Governor Palin has given 2.4 % of her income. Senator Obama comes in third with 2.2% giving, and Senator Biden brings up a pitiful rear with a whopping 0.2% of income given to charity. This may seem strange to you because you have always been taught that Democrats were the ones that help poor people, not Republicans.
It is Obama-Biden that advocates taxing the rich and “spreading the wealth around.” Matthew 19:21 says, “Jesus answered, ‘If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.’” My colleague focused on the wrong part of this verse. He focused on the phrase “give to the poor”; while I focus on “sell all your possessions.” This is the difference between the Democratic and Republican platforms. Democrats feel that because they need to be forced to give, everyone else needs to be forced to give as well. Republicans feel that one should give out of their love for others, regardless of the law. This verse does not say, “Go, and elect a leader like Senator Obama, who will force you to give all your money to him, so he can decide how to distribute it to others.” Republicans are not heartless; we just trust ourselves giving our money to the poor, more than Barack Obama and the federal bureaucracy. Apparently Democrats need someone to legislate the amount of aid that they give.
Senator Obama is NOT the next Abraham Lincoln as some claim. In fact, the only thing they have in common is their home state. Abraham Lincoln had the inner strength to do what he knew was right, regardless of what anyone else thought. He did what was necessary to save a nation. This is the exact opposite of Senator Obama. Senator Obama does what is popular, ignoring the actual problems. He would have had us pull out of Iraq without victory because too many people died. He would shut down Guantanamo Bay and give due process to terrorists captured on a foreign battlefield. On the contrary, Abraham Lincoln prosecuted the most costly war in American history, and did not stop until unconditional surrender. In short, Barack Obama is not the next Abraham Lincoln. He is not half the man that Lincoln was.
Lastly, I stated that Barack Obama is not qualified to be President. This mainly has to do with his radical associations. If Barack Obama were a private citizen, he would not be able to hold even the lowest level security clearance because of the people with which he is associated. I will provide a brief overview. He served on the board of the Woods Foundation with former domestic terrorist William Ayers. Ayers is now a university professor, but in the early 1970s, he helped to bomb the Capital, Pentagon, and New York City police headquarters in protest of the Vietnam War. Ayers was not convicted of any of these crimes due to a technicality, but he admitted to setting the bombs, saying “Guilty as hell, free as a bird, America is great.” On September 11, 2001, Ayers said, “I do not regret setting bombs…I feel we did not do enough.” Obama could not help sitting on a board with this man, but he did not have to launch his political career in Ayers’ living room. In 1995, then state senator Alice Palmer introduced Obama as her successor in Ayers’ Chicago home. Obama will tell you he was 8 when Ayers set these bombs, and he is right. But he was 35 when he decided to befriend the terrorist in order to help his political career.
Obama’s radical past does not end there. He was a 20-year member of the church of Pastor Jeremiah Wright, whom he called a friend and mentor. He was married by Rev. Wright and his children were baptized by him. In Obama’s church, Rev. Wright has said “God bless America? No, no, no, God damn America!” In response to the attacks of September 11th, he said, “America’s chickens have come home to roost”. Senator Obama even quotes Wright in his book, saying, “where white man’s greed runs a world in need.” Obama first claimed he did not know about Wright’s beliefs. Then he claimed he was not in church for those sermons. Then he claimed he could not disown Rev. Wright because he was like family. Then he disowned Rev. Wright because it started to hurt his Presidential campaign. Through the years, Obama has earmarked large sums of money for Rev. Wright’s church ministries. Rev. Wright advocates racism in the purest sense, and Barack Obama was right there with him, until it no longer helped his political career. Do you see a pattern here?
Many Democrats and those in the media criticize anyone who calls Barack Obama socialist. However, take a look at all the socialist endorsements he has received in his career. If the socialists say he is a socialist that is good enough for me. Consider this from the New Party’s own website: “Candidates must be approved via a NP political committee. Once approved, candidates must sign a contract with the NP. The contract mandates that they must have a visible and active relationship with the NP … [referring to politicians associated with the New Party] and Barack Obama, chief of staff for State Sen. Alice Palmer. Obama is running for Palmer’s vacant seat.” Obama then attended the New Party membership meeting to express his gratitude. This should scare you. Obama has also had a longstanding relationship with the voter registration fraud group ACORN. Obama has funneled millions to ACORN and, in return, has used ACORN volunteers on his campaigns. Despite only being in the Senate for 4 years, Obama has also been the second largest recipient of money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Even politicians who had been in office for 15 years could not top Obama on this list. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are directly responsible for most of what is going wrong in our economy today. How can Senator Obama be trusted to regulate such firms while they give him hundreds of thousands of dollars?
Any one of these associations can be explained away relatively easily. The problem is that when taken together, they paint a frightening picture. This is not a man in tune with America. This is not a man who shares America’s values. Despite what he says now, he has a very radical past and very radical views. He is not the reincarnation of Abraham Lincoln. He is a man who has hoodwinked the American public into believing he is someone else. But he is wrong on just about every issue and he is the wrong person to lead this country.
